The 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards

The 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards (b.k.a. The Black Oscars/Golden Globes/Grammys all rolled into one) went down live last night at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. This year's show was definitely an upgrade. But y'all know the drill. Let's hit up the red carpet:

The only black family in Genoa City was there (cast members of Young and The Restless for all you non Y&Rers):

Bryton McClure and Christel Khalil (yes...I'm still bitter about her jacking Davetta's spot) hit up the carpet. Christel was rocking D'Voshion Couture. I've been told that this gown is made of red silk embellished with silver metallic thread and solstice French lace, with intricate beadwork dazzles along the hem. *sigh* Me no likey. Red metallic is a definite no-no at all times. But Garcelle Beauvais and other celebs rock the designer pretty often and look fabulous.

And of course Victoria Rowell was there looking more YBF than ever:

I would straight jack this entire look. Loves it. A little bit on the less formal side..but she pulls it off.

And another one of my fave daytime divas was there:

Renee Goldsberry.

Hill Harper won 2 awards before the show--Outstanding Literary Work (Debut Author) and Outstanding Literary Work (Youth/Teens) for his book "Letters to a Young Brother". Congrats to him.

The CW folks were in full effect:

Pooch Hall and Hosea Chanchez from The Game looked pretty hot. But umm...must we take the ghetto prom pose pics on the red carpet fellas? Thanks...

Ms. Tyra looked stunning last night:

She's a full fledged member of the CGU and I love it.

And as for Tracee Ellis Ross:

She's my Best Dressed pick of the night. That dress was the hottest fitting dress of the whole night and her entire look was on point. Simple, understated, but oh so glamourous. And an added plus--it's a throwback dress since it's her mom's from her Dreamgirls days. Loves it. Congrats to her for winning Best Actress in a Comedy Series as well.

But that brother of hers Evan:

Still scares the crap out of me every time.

Fab chick Keesha Sharp was there to round out the Girlfriends crew. Persia, Goden, and of course Jill Marie Jones were all M.I.A.

Duane Martin and his wife Tisha Campell hit the carpet. Leather very rarely fares well with me when it comes to formal gowns. And clearly Tisha's new diet is doing nothing for that still bloated face. Let me stop....

The Everybody Hates Chris kids kicked it with Sanaa on the red carpet:

Who put a wig on that lil girl??

Red is so Sanaa's color. Beautiful.

And Thelma looked pretty fab too.

Tichina Arnold

She was just too happy when her TV son Tyler won for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. So cute.

Tia Mowry looked cute in sky blue.

And Meagan should have slapped her date for stepping foot on the red carpet in a suit and tennis shoes. Hell...she sacrificed and removed her seemingly irremovable big ass gold nameplated hoops for this event. He could have put some effort into the shoe department as well. It's a trade off dammit...

Actor Victor Williams and his wife

MJB rocked a hot peach shirred gown.

The Ugly Betty crew rolled deep to the red carpet:

The fabulous Vanessa Williams brought her daughter Jillian. She won for Best Supporting Actress in A Comedy Series.

America Ferrera

Vanessa and Ana Ortiz

The cast won for Best TV Comedy Series. Well deserved...

Kerry Washington, Sanaa, and Florence LaRue

Christopher and Kyle Massey

Look at Leonard trying to show some chest....

The McClain sisters were pretty in pink.

Oh India. This is just not a good look to me.

Bruce Gordon and Russey Simmons spent some QT on the red carpet. Did anybody else not understand a damn thing Russell said while he was presenting an award? Just wondering...

Cutie Christopher Columbus brought his date on the carpet.

Damn Sheryl. And you try so hard.....

Aisha Tyler disappointed me with her look:

She definitely could have done better. And my grandma wants her spring tablecloth back immediately.

Anika Rose looked hot:

She lost out to J-Hud for Outstanding Supporting Role in a Movie.

S. Epatha Merkson and Jesse L. Martin joked around. They've been with Law and Order almost 20 years. It's been a long time.

The Chief was in attendance.

So were The Cheetah Girls:

Tawny Cypress

Loretta Devine and McSteamy's wife Rebecca Gayhart posed for pics on the carpet. Grey's got the award for Best Drama Series on TV. Hell yeah...

Keisha and Omar looked cute:

Omar won for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama Series (House).

Damn Rain Pryor! Were you serious? Christel was my worst dressed pick of the night, but that award now goes to you hon. Try again.

Jada was my runner up for Best Dressed of the night:

I have a thing for wedding dresses and this looked like a beautiful version of one...sans the bows. She was there in place of Will. He lost to Forest...again...for the Best/Outstanding Actor Award, but Pursuit of Happyness won for Best Picture.

Kadeem Hardison won for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for The Fantasia Barrino Story.

Kimberly Elise rocked a hot peachy gown. She also won the award for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series (Close To Home).

Camille Winbush loves her some velvet...

Tasha Smith

The Host of the Awards LL and his wife Simone hit up the red carpet of course.

So did The Rev and Justine.

And Kerry Washington looked fabulous as usual.

On a sidenote...Eddie must still be bitter about his Oscar loss as Best Supporting Actor because he was MIA last night for the same nomination. But he lost yet again and this time to Djimon Hounsou. Congrats to Djimon though...And many celebs were late of course...so there are many more celebs who did make the show who didn't hit the red carpet. Stay tuned for the show and afterparty pics....
